Thanks for visiting Thirty Secrets! If you’re on this post, you’re probably trying to figure out what the blog is about. Well, good news, I’m about to tell you! It might be a good idea to start with the About page though, if you haven’t already.
I turned 30 a few years ago now and I’ve found this time a pretty interesting phase in my life. For some, turning 30 is just another life milestone. For others, like me, it’s a real time of transition – whether positive, negative or mixed – and can be filled with uncertainty, big decisions and imposter syndrome, not to mention a lot of humour.
Often by the time you hit your thirties, you’ve got a real mish-mash of friends all at wildly different points in their lives. Some will be on to their third property, baby number 2 on the way, and some will still be blacking out at the weekend, losing their door keys and waking up next to a questionable stranger. You may also have some form of goals that you’d consciously or subconsciously set yourself, or milestones you had laid out for your life at this point, and you may have exceeded them or not even be halfway there.
I got married in my early twenties, and was divorced by just 25. This alone was something that completely changed what I’d imagined my life “trajectory” to look like by the time I was 30 – not that this is all bad, by any means. I’ve found it really interesting to explore that and what it means for other people, too.
If you look at the majority of what I suppose you’d call “lifestyle blogs,” you’ll get a lot of picture-perfect guides, tips and advice on how to “live your best life” and be “thirty and fabulous.” Thirty Secrets isn’t that sort of blog. I wanted to create a place to share real thoughts, feelings and experiences; the good, the bad and the ugly. Think of it as the type of topics you chat about in the pub — even right at the end of the night when you’re in over-share mode — and you’re on about the right lines!
I hope you enjoy reading and feel free to get in touch with any questions or suggestions for topics.
Cheers!
